Squash Racket Review – Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate

The Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate Squash Racquet is one of the top end racquets from Dunlop. It is a great control racquet, has reasonable power due to its oversized head and has that great Dunlop feel.

The biggest reason for its great control is its 16 x 19 string pattern. 16 x 19 is a very dense string pattern for a squash racquet.  In particular it has two extra main strings more than the other Dunlop racquets that have the similar frame design.

Dunlop is known for its feel and the Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate epitomizes that characteristic. You definitely get a sense of the ball on the strings from the soft feel of this racquet. That leads to the feeling of being able to control the ball which instills confidence.

If you are a squash player and are looking for a control racquet with great feel definitely check out the Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate.

The 4D Ultimate squash racket would suit advanced/intermediate players looking for a head light pro player frame. It has 16×19 string pattern, widened throat area and long handle for maximum feel and control. The oversized head help to give maximum power.

    • Chris,

Thanks for taking the time to post on our blog! The Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate was one of Dunlop’s top end racquets a few years ago. Have you been having an issue with durability or are you looking for something that plays differently/better?

  1. Hi Jeff,

Although your review of this racket is somewhat dated, this racket can still be bought (reasonably priced). I’m thinking about getting this racket. Could you perhaps share any ideas on how much difference/improvements the new biomimetics range of dunlop rackets show with respect to this racket. In other words, can the aerogel 4D ultimate still be seen as top-racket or did technology advance so much that this one is better to be left aside?

    • There has been a reasonable amount of change in the Ultimate since the Aerogel 4D model. The latest edition the Ultimate GTS has a bit different head shape, Biofibre, MoS2 grommets. The head shape is designed to give a bit a larger sweetspot on the current model. Biofibre is designed to reduce vibration so as to make the racquet more comfortable. MoS2 grommets are designed to be a bit more durable and allow more movement of the string through the grommet which increases power and spin. Those are the differences off the top of my head. That being said the Ultimate Aerogel 4D was a nice racquet to play with and that has not changed. It is still a good racquet. If the price was right it could be a good purchase still.
