Squash - Movement to and from the ball

Mar 7, 2015 9:10:00 AM / by Jeff Warren posted in Squash Tips, Squash Training, movement, training, Amr Shabana, squash, tips

Movement in squash is probably the most important aspect of the game. It is also one the things that really separates different levels of players. When moving to the ball there are a few key elements to consider. Most of the time if you can you need to get on the ball quickly to have the option of putting time pressure on your opponent. You also need to approach the ball in a manner that leaves you options as to where you hit the ball. One of the most critical points of moving to the ball though is leaving yourself in a good position to move off of the ball. I believe this is probably the biggest differences between high level players and lower level players.

Amr Shabana's Forehand - Preparation, Hold and Deception

Apr 27, 2014 11:30:10 AM / by Jeff Warren posted in Squash Tips, Squash Training, holding your shot, deception, Forehand, Amr Shabana, racquet preparation

I am watching the Grasshopper Cup 2014 on www.psasquashtv.com currently and am having a good look at Shabana's forehand. It really is a thing of beauty. He has my favourite forehand on tour. There are several components of it that I really like. His racquet preparation, his hold, how deceptive it is and how consistent it is are what make it so good.

I learned just before the Tournament of Champions that Salming had signed Amr Shabana. My contact was not sure if he would be playing with them at the tournament as he had just signed and indeed he did not. He did however play with the Salming Race R1 2.0 at the Case Swedish Open 2014 in his first round match.

This year’s tournament is proving to be very entertaining.  The round of 16 has just finished and there has already been a few terrific matches.  The match between Simon Rosner and Omar Mosaad in particular was really entertaining yesterday and was really fun to watch.  The momentum swings were incredible as was the pace of the ball.  I could not believe how hard Mosaad was hitting.  The commentary on @_SquashTV about how hard they were hitting and how loud it was at the venue was hilarious.  The other match that was fantastic was the Tarek Momen versus Chris Gordon match.  Twitter was absolutely abuzz with conversation about this match and Gordon's terrific effort in this match.

Squash Racket Review - Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate

Oct 19, 2010 8:45:09 AM / by Jeff Warren posted in Amr Shabana, Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate, Review, review, squash

The Dunlop Aerogel 4D Ultimate Squash Racquet is one of the top end racquets from Dunlop. It is a great control racquet, has reasonable power due to its oversized head and has that great Dunlop feel.

The biggest reason for its great control is its 16 x 19 string pattern. 16 x 19 is a very dense string pattern for a squash racquet.  In particular it has two extra main strings more than the other Dunlop racquets that have the similar frame design.
